Frustration Trying to Upload 1.096 Firmware

Postby SteveMilner » Mon Apr 27, 2015 8:36 pm

I am becoming increasingly annoyed trying upload the latest firmware.

Using the fwupdate script I am unable to perform the update.

I have setup the serial port correctly on both the UPiS board with the jumpers and by editing the init and cmdline files. I can use minicom on the Pi with ease, detailing @version, @status etc.

I have setup the UPiS into boot loader mode and I have the Red LED Lit.

upon executing the python fwupdate script (using both sudo and normal) I receive an error from the script:

Invalid Response from UPiS 19, Please retry the FW upload process.

What does this mean exactly. How do I rectify it?

So I've pulled apart the Pi Box, disconnected the boards, set the jumpers and plugged it into a Windows 7 Pro. machine.

Firstly the drivers don't load, so I visit this page as suggested elsewhere:
http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP.htm

Could you tell me _EXACTLY_ what to use from that page - I used the Setup Executable since that seems to sort out 32/64 bit and the other drivers are unsupported.

Windows creates a USB port for me - I then configure it according to the instructions 38400, 8, N, 2, XON/XOFF and make the changes to the latency settings in the Advanced tab.
Reboot
Redo the 38400,8,N,2 XON/XOFF in the driver settings because they didn't stick.
Reboot

Check the serial port setting all OK (Com port set to COM10 by default, but have tried changing the port to 29 and 1 as well)

Set the UPiS into boot loader mode (red led)

Use the Uploader exe and I get the error message "i.e._nopen device not open" and I'm then left with the progress bar not doing anything and an empty window I need to shut down.

HOW THE HELL AM I MEANT TO UPLOAD THE FIRMWARE.

I am very disappointed with this device all in all.

Hi,

Please find my answer below in your text

OK

It says you that there is problem over the serial port communication.
Some questions to you.
What version of RPi do you have ?
Have you run the minicom before uploading the firmware. From our experience (the minicom keeps the serial port open, even if you exit form it), you need to restart the RPi

So I've pulled apart the Pi Box, disconnected the boards, set the jumpers and plugged it into a Windows 7 Pro. machine.

Firstly the drivers don't load,

All version of WIN7 have embedded the FTDI drivers

so I visit this page as suggested elsewhere:
http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP.htm

OK

Could you tell me _EXACTLY_ what to use from that page - I used the Setup Executable since that seems to sort out 32/64 bit and the other drivers are unsupported.

Have you enter the parameters to the command line as explained on the manual

UPiS_BL PORT=COMX BAUD=38400 UPiS_V1.00.hex

HOW THE HELL AM I MEANT TO UPLOAD THE FIRMWARE.

You need to follow the instructions of the manual, you need to run it from the command mode as written in the manual, and not just click on the icon, as you probably done.

I am very disappointed with this device all in all.

We are here to support you, and if after support you will be not able to use it, then I will agree with your disappointment, however lets try to do what is needed in order to make it working.

Please try to follow the manual, or my suggestions, and answer to my questions
