Disable RTC

Postby dakota127 » Sun Nov 02, 2014 9:11 pm

Hi
I built a Pi system using an advanced UPiS and more circuitry that also includes a 'real' RTC with battery backup (Adafruit product 264). Now, since this rtc uses address 68 on the i2c bus I have an address conflict with the 'not real' RTC on the UPiS that also uses address 68. I have to disable i2c on the UPis for my system to work - by NOT setting the jumpers as per fig. 22 of the manual. That means I cannot use the PiCo interface.
The integrated RTC on the UPiS is very nice but it depends on the battery having enough charge. Other users might also like to include a 'real' RTC (with battery backup) in their systems.
So I suggest that in future version of the firmware UPiS it should be possible that the RTC function can be disabled. Default would be enabled. That would free address 68 - which seems to be reserved for RTC's.

Greetings, Peter

Hi,
OK, I will add it. Just for your info, the release of the new one B+ will be tomorrow, still testing.
As you can see, we started with a simple device, and now have a complicated real time embedded software :-)

Hi

Yes, I am well aware that this little piece of hardware is more complex than meets the eye. And yet it is not expensive - hard to believe that it sells for so little money. I ordered a second one just today. So thanks for all efforts and keep up the good work.

Greetings, Peter

Hi,
We solved it in a way, that you will enter the base address, and the PiCO register will be shifted in I2C address space, so RTC wil not exist anymore on the 0x68 address. Hope it helps.
