Under-voltage protection on external input

Postby dhaglund » Sun Apr 23, 2017 1:16 am

Hi.

I great feature for the UPS PIco Plus would be under-voltage protection on the extended voltage input. When the voltage drops below a fixed value (say 11.0V for a car battery) the PI should shut down and not start again until the external voltage is above another fixed value (say 11.5V) and possibly also not until the external power has been switched off and on again.

I'm thinking that this should be possible to do using the built-in relay and maybe a few external components. Firmware support would required as well of course.

Is this something that could be implemented?

What are the rest of you using for protecting you battery powered PIs?

Hi,

this would be a great function. Want to use the pi module on a boat on a marine battery. Shutting down the unit at a predefined voltage would be great !

I was wondering if there is a possibility to read out the current voltage of the external supply ?
Anyone done this, in that case i could make a script in the PI to initiate shut down.

thx

Yes,

This will be definitely an added value function to this product. I will use it on a boat sourced bij the 12 V batteries.
I would like to keep the PI running as long as healty for the battery, so an adjustable cut off voltage will be great and save the battery.

The possibility to read the voltage of the external supply by the board on regular intervals and writing an own mechanisme of shutting down is an temporary alternative.
